Method

The Passionfruit Martini (or Pornstar Martini) is one of the more contemporary cocktails, but deserves its spot in the mixology hall of fame nonetheless! Fruity and easy to drink, it’s popular amongst those who prefer a lighter cocktail. There’s very little kick, making it a super palatable option. If you’re a lover of fruity cocktails or want to expand your repertoire, learn how to fix the perfect Passionfruit Martini with our top tips.

A Newer Cocktail

The Passionfruit Martini didn’t hit the cocktail scene until very recently, making its mark in the early 21st century. As drinks go, this is certainly one of the most modern! The specific origins of the drink are unknown, but it’s likely the first bartender to make it was both a lover of passionfruit & vodka and could very well have been inspired by a tropical getaway.

How to Fix a Fabulous Passionfruit Martini

In bars, you’ll commonly see this cocktail referred to as a Pornstar Martini, too. The names are interchangeable, but the recipe isn’t! Here’s how to create your own fruit, sweet Martini to enjoy in the warmer weather:

1. Slice a passionfruit in half and scoop out the seeds from one half
2. Add the seeds to a cocktail shaker along with ice, 50ml of vanilla vodka, 15ml of passionfruit liqueur, 15ml of sugar syrup, and 15ml of lime juice
3. Shake until chilled
4. Strain into a Martini Glass or Coupe Glass
5. Serve with a shot glass of prosecco or champagne and garnish with the other half of the passion fruit

Variations to the Recipe

The Passionfruit Martini is a wonderfully versatile cocktail that can be changed up to suit your palette. For those looking for a less sweet version, opt for an unflavoured vodka rather than vanilla. We recommend Koskenkorva Vodka for a smooth, fresh flavour that’ll pair well with the fruity flavours.

For less alcoholic cocktails, you can also switch passionfruit liqueur for passionfruit juice, or a tropical juice if you’re hard-pressed to find passionfruit.

Prosecco On The Side?

A lot of bartenders prefer to serve a Passionfruit Martini with prosecco or champagne poured into a shot glass and placed to the side of the glass. This is the traditional way to present this tropical Martini. Some people then pour the shot into the glass, though this isn’t the proper way to drink it. The shot should be drunk first, preferably as a cheers, before the cocktail is sipped. Adding prosecco or champagne to the cocktail unbalances the flavour and can ruin the drink.
