Travel-Inspired Cocktails to Make at Home

This year, the travel industry is finally set to return to normal, but until then we’ve got plenty of holiday-inspired cocktails to keep you happy.

Whether you’re just back from an overseas adventure or you’re itching to get going after the pandemic kept us grounded, holidays are always a highlight. From the beaches of Bali to the heights of the French Alps, there’s a whole world out there to explore! This year, the travel industry is finally set to return to normal, but until then we’ve got plenty of holiday-inspired cocktails to keep you happy.

Mai Tai

Fruity, complex, and with plenty of rum, the Mai Tai is a quintessential holiday drink for many. It’s the perfect cocktail to sip on the beach as the sun goes down and more adult than some expect (this is no fruit punch, people!). To make your own, you’ll need:

- Orange liqueur (Grand Marnier, Curacao, and Cointreau all work)
- Lime juice
- Orgeat syrup

It’s common to add both white and dark rum to a Mai Tai, though you can also mix out the white rum for an aged rum instead. Excluding the dark rum, place everything into a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice and shake. Float the dark rum, allowing it to settle on top in a single layer, before straining and garnishing with mint, lime, pineapple, and/or cherries.

Limoncello Mojito

Who doesn’t love a shot of zesty Limoncello? Add a little zing to your next Mojito with this citrusy recipe that’s deliciously fresh. To mix a Limencoll Mojito, follow these steps:

- Add the juice of one lemon, a tablespoon of caster sugar, and a few sprigs of mint into a cocktail shaker and muddle
- Once the sugar has dissolved pour in 100ml of white rum and 100ml of Limoncello
- Shake with a handful of ice
- Strain the cocktail into glasses and top with soda water

Garnish with mint leaves and serve instantly for a true taste of travelling!

Spicy Margarita

If you like to live on the spicier side of life, this Spicy Margarita will be right up your street. With plenty of punch from both the jalapenos and the alcohol alongside the refreshing lime juice, it’s a unique drink that’s bound to leave your friends talking. Though somewhat complex to make, the time you put in is well worth it for the end result.

- 150ml tequila
- 75ml triple sec
- 25ml mango juice, chilli syrup, and lime juice

To make the chilli syrup, add sliced chillis and 50g sugar into a saucepan, along with around 50ml of water. Bring to a simmer and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Leave the syrup to cool.

Once cool, add all of the cocktail ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake with ice. Strain the cocktails into glasses and enjoy the heat!

Aperol Spritz

An Aperol Spritz is incredibly easy to make and tastes delicious! In terms of holiday cocktails, this one instantly transports us to the streets of Venice and the Amalfi Coast. To create your own from your home bar, simply pour 50ml of Aperol over a glass with ice. Add plenty of prosecco and top with a dash of soda water. So simple yet so delightful.
