English Sparkling Wine

Award-winning wine writer AMANDA BARNES grew up on a chalky hill in Hampshire which has become a hub of English sparkling wine today. Although she writes about a world of wine for leading publications in the UK and US, she’s always had a penchant for English fizz and has curated this selection of diverse wines from the sparkling world of English wine. Amanda is author of The South America Wine Guide, Editor of the Circle of Wine Writers and has visited 37 wine-producing countries and counting; but returns to her roots for this wine selection proving that there’s more to meet the eye in English sparkling wine.

“Making sparkling wine in England isn’t anything new. English scientist Christopher Merret is actually credited as being the creator of the traditional sparkling wine method in 1662, before French monk Dom Perignon made it famous a few years later in Champagne. Although the English had a head start in the theory of sparkling wine, it has only been in the past 50 years that it has taken a great leap in quality. But since then it has jumped onto the world stage as the sparkling wine region to watch (so much so that several Champagne houses have now moved into the vineyards of England!)

English sparkling wine is tantalisingly diverse. There’s no better time to revamp your home cellar with the exceptional quality and thrilling new styles of English sparkling wine.
